Becky's Little Rambles...

-19th June 2010 -

Hey Folks!!

Sorry that it’s been a while since I last wrote, but as you know I’ve recently landed in New Zealand to spread my music wings far and wide and have been busy writing and booking as many gigs as I can! ;0)

GREAT NEWS!... I’ve done a featured interview for the latest addition of Maverick Magazine OUT NOW and here’s a little taster just for you…

BECKY SYSON - LIVING THE DREAM (printed in the July 2010 issue of Maverick Magazine) Becky Syson is a modest singer songwriter, earning herself the reputation as a ‘sublime folk–rock’ artist. Brought up in a musical environment, in which her dad and grandad encouraged her to pick up the guitar, Becky found her passion for playing at the age of sixteen. “My dad is very musical, so are my grandad and brother. It’s kind of a male thing, but I am changing it. Being a girl, you often kind of see that there are a lot of guys at festivals, so it was like: ‘No I want to play the guitar as well.’ My dad showed me my first song, which was House of the Rising Sun, and then I just kind of progressed on my own.”

Sending out big 'Thank You' hugs to all my supporters at the gig last night in Newark!  Thanks for braving the cold wintery weather.

Just wanted to let you know about another fantastic Review for 'Weave Your Dreams'... It's got Five Stars from Nottingham Evening Post...

'Written with the people closest to her heart in mind, this EP from the lively singer songwriter and occasional EG model has a sweet and personal touch and is immaculately produced. Breezy acoustics carry exceptional melodies that uplift. Her purpose is unashamedly one of positivity. On My Way, a song dedicated to living your dreams, is the standout and leaves the listener wanting more. Although this latest release on Nottingham's Arboretum Records is short on tunes, it teases fans of this prolific performer and indicates there's plenty more to come.'

★★★★★ Simon Wilson, Nottingham Evening Post December 2009.

Hey Hey Folks! Hope you're all well and happy!

It's been a while I know, but it's great to be back, and have I got news for you! ;0)

This year kicks off with a brilliant review of 'Weave Your Dreams', my latest release with Arboretum Records in LeftLion Magazine...

'Some of the best times ever are those long summer evenings spent just lazily hanging out in the garden or in the park with friends and loved ones. Listening Weave Your Dreams offers a similar sensation for me. Whether it’s through magic, trickery, brainwashing, or just incredible songwriting (on evidence I suspect it’s the latter), Becky Syson manages to bring those feelings of warmth and optimism to her music. This is exactly the kind of thing you want on these cold, dark and dreary winter evenings. Becky seems to radiate positivity and this comes through loud and clear in her music. For instance, the EP opens up with Nancy Song, a story of lost love, but taken from the viewpoint that it’s not lost forever as there are still the happy memories and the possibility of seeing that person again on ‘the other side’. How heartwarming! There are points where Becky’s voice is reminsicent of Harriet Wheeler from The Sundays; smooth, vibrant, and full of spirit. Whilst musically, the EP stays on the acoustic side of business, with occasional flourishes of drums and guitars - especially on the jazzy On My Way. The simple arrangements give the songs room to grow and weave their magic on the listener.'

Paul Klotschkow, LeftLion Magazine.

(Oh and by the way... I'm playing LIVE TONIGHT at The Navigation in Newark with support from my brilliant brother Lance Syson! FREE ENTRY! Starts at 8pm and I have a new song up my sleeve! So if you want to be the first to hear it... get yourself to The Navigation TONIGHT!)
